Printers Alley, Nashville, TN 37201
The historical nightlife and entertainment hub of the Music City populated Printer’s Alley. The famous alley runs between Third and Fourth Avenue with a large entrance sign over Church Street which you can hardly miss. Its namesake originates in its previous concentration of the publishing industry, including two newspaper offices, several print shops, and publishers. The nightclub district came to life in the 1940s and, until the late 1960s, the alley was a main entertainment district and source of liquor sales when Tennessee was a “dry state.” Printer’s Alley also became known for exhibiting musical talents such as The Supremes and Chet Atkins.
