Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park

600 James Robertson Pkwy, Nashville, TN 37243

Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park commemorates Tennessee’s entrance into the Union on June 1, 1796 as the 16th state, and showcases everything unique to the state’s natural splendor and history.

On the south side of the park, close to James Robertson Parkway, the Tennessee Map Plaze showcases the entire state including Nashville’s ninety-five counties, cities, geographical details, and transportation systems. Past the Plaza, the park opens up to the Rivers of Tennessee Fountain which showcases 31 water fountains that represent Tennessee’s major rivers and water systems. The Tennessee Amphitheatre faces a stunning view of the Nashville Capitol, which is visible from around the park, and displays theatrical productions and outdoor shows throughout the year. Between the Amphitheatre and the northern end of the park, extends an exploration through Tennessee’s history and lush greenspace. The Path of Volunteers connects the base of the park to the Court of Three Stars and the entire area is surrounded by the Pathway of History, Walkway of Counties, and various war memorials and monuments.

The Court of Three Stars references the flag and symbolism of the three stars on Tennessee’s flag. The stars represent the three distinct “Grand Divisions” of the state, including East Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and West Tennessee. The blue circle encompassing the stars symbolizes the unity of the three sections. Surrounding the flag replica, the 95-bell carillion embodies Nashville’s character as Music City. Each bell stands in place as a county of the state and the carillion performs the Tennessee Waltz frequently throughout the day. Every hour, the classic Tennessee song is played in full, while at every quarter hour, only a portion is performed. On the West side of the Court, the Tennessee State Museum offers a further dive into the Volunteer state’s history.

On Wednesdays, free park tours are offered April through November at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm for approximately one hour and begin outside the visitor center as the southern end of the park.
